Biography of Md. Fuad Mondal,Ph.D.

Fuad Mondal

is working as an Associate Professor in the

Department of Entomology at Sylhet Agricultural University, Sylhet, Bangladesh. In the department, he mainly takes the Fundamentals of Entomology, Insect Ecology and Pest Management, Economic Entomology, and Insect Physiology courses in under grade level and Insect Ecology, Insect nutrition and Biochemistry, Insect pathology, Insect Physiology and Industrial Entomology in the Masters level.

Mr. Mondal has also served as

National Consultant-Pest Management in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

of the United Nations in Bangladesh since April 2020. In

FAO, Bangladesh,

Mr. Mondal mainly consulted on the ongoing project entitled

“Technical Assistance to establish solar Energy based e-pest surveillance system.”

He is also supporting another project related to the

Fall armyworm

entitled

“Response to enhance technical capacity for monitoring and management of Fall armyworm in Bangladesh.”

He has more than 11 years of teaching, research, and agricultural extension experiences in various fields of Agriculture, especially in entomology, horticulture, and forestry in Japan and Bangladesh.

Mr. Mondal earned his Ph.D. in

Bioproduction Sciences from the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science

, Tottori University, Japan in the year 2015 with a major in the production of horticultural crops and functional foods by recovering the allelochemicals in control environment agriculture. During his Ph.D. research, he was experienced with the joint research program of Tottori University and Shimane University Medical Unit. Prior to his Ph.D., he achieved his second post-graduation degree in Master of Science in Life and Environmental Science from Shimane University in the year 2012. To conduct the master's and Ph.D. programs in Japan, Mr. Mondal received the Japanese Government Scholarship (MEXT) from 2010-2105.

Before joining as a lecturer, in the

Department of Entomology of Sylhet Agricultural University

, Bangladesh, Mr. Mondal completed his Graduation in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and post-graduation in Master of Science in Entomology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He conducted his master's degree research in the

Entomology Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI), Gazipur

, Bangladesh, under a European Union (EU) funded project as a Research Assistant. In his Masters's research, he experienced the mass rearing of eggs parasitoids for natural release as a biocontrol agent in the brinjal ecosystem.

Mr. Mondal started his own research carrier by receiving funds from FAO, the World Bank, DFID, the University Grand Commission of Bangladesh, Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. The key focus areas of these projects were the Fall armyworm, Integrated pest Management of vegetables, apiculture, insects as food and feed, forest entomology, etc.

During his professional carrier, Mr. Mondal received training on various aspects of food & nutrition and pest management from Japan, Bangladesh, and The Netherlands. As a research supervisor, Mr. Mondal supervised 15 master's level research students under his different projects. Besides research and academia, he also maintained a professional linkup with many professional societies. Mr. Mondal is a life member of the Bangladesh Entomological Society and Bangladesh Agricultural Extension Society. He was also a general member of Japanese Society for Horticultural Sciences from 2010 to 2016.
